Date: March 1970
Location: Florence, South Carolina, United States

The witness, who was an employee at a TV station, saw a "UFO in broad daylight hovering on top of the [TV] tower, [and then] ran back inside the station to get the news director, Mr. Bill Fields." The craft was metallic, round, with a round cupola on top of the craft. It was about 100 feet across and about 25 feet tall. The encounter lasted for more than four hours, during which the object moved and stopped a couple of times before shooting off at "blinding speed."

Summary: "I was an employee, and there it was a UFO in broad daylight hovering on top of the tower, I ran back inside the station to get the news director, Mr. Bill Fields (deceased)."

Date Reported: 5/21/2006 10:23:03 p.m.

Sighting Time: 6:30 p.m.
Day/Night: Dusk/Evening
No. of Witnesses: 2
Duration: More than 4 hours at 50 feet distance

Appearance/Description of Object(s):

"The UFO was metalic, round, with a round cuppola on top of the craft as I saw it from the TV tower. It had square looking lights completely around the edge of the craft, they were green, purple, and yellow, The faster the craft flew, the faster these lights would appear to go around and around the edge of the craft."

Size of Object(s):

"About 3 ft apart for my hand, the craft was about 100 feet across and about 25 feet tall."

Description of Area/Surroundings:

"Rural/Interstate/outskirts of Florence SC and Darlington SC/ TV transmiting Tower."

Full Description & Details:

"This was in 1970. Mr. fields and I watched the round craft for about an hour. Then it moved to Interstate 95, about 1/8 of a mile from the transmit tower in Florence SC., and it hovered over a billboard about 50 feet above my head. We were in a car under the UFO; it did nothing to the car instruments, so I got out of car and stood directly under the craft for about 1 hour; this was about sunset. Nothing happened to me physically; there was no static electricity causing my hair to stand up or anything like that. The craft moved toward the I-95 highway and headed toward Highway 52 from TV Road about 40 feet above our car and turned on Highway 52 toward Darlington, SC, still about 40 feet above our car. We continued on to the Darlington by-pass to the Hartsville Hwy. Halfway between Darlinton, SC and Hartsville, SC, the craft stopped. By then, it was about 9:00 p.m. We stood under the craft beside the road for the next hour and 30 minutes. It was about 10:30 p.m. and the craft tilted its edge upward slightly (it was round), toward the sky and took with amazing speed. It did not cause any wind to blow my hair or move any vegetation. The craft had square-looking lights on the edge of the craft, and the faster the craft flew, the faster these lights would appear to go around and around the crafts edge. The lights were green, purple, and yellow. It was a clear afternoon and night. We were in the close presence of this craft for more than 4 hours; it was nearly a hands on experience. I did not see who was flying the craft. The craft stayed up in the sky a while, stopped, then shot off in outer space at blinding speed."

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

"This was undeniably a UFO, no doubt about it whatsoever, a clearly visible craft, no doubt. I do not think a human could have been flying it because of the blinding speed it took off at my last sighting of it; the G-forces would have been entirely too great for a human to withstand."

Witness Background:

"I am currently A Railroad Engineer with CSX Railroad for 29 years. I have 2 years of college. I was a Jet Engine Mechanic 6 years, USAF."

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting:

"Before, I did not believe in it; I am a Southern Baptist. After the sighting, I was a firm believer having been in its presence for more than 4 hours at 50 feet away on a clear day/evening. I did not read about UFO's because I did not believe in them at the time. I did know just a little about them, before."

Other Comments:

"As I stand before God, this is a true story."
